Question: I purchased one of your templates a couple of years ago. My site has grown to be very large and I recently realized that when ever I work on the site I work live. I need to save the site off of the current server. In the event of server malfunction I would not be able to duplicate my current site. How and where should I save it. Thanks

Reply:

This is fairly common on large webs - to be honest, I work live on my large webs, too.  You should maintain a local copy for backup, which is achieved by logging into the server "live" (which you already do to make your edits), then selecting the publish function and publishing down to your local drive.  If you are using FP2003, we have a viewlet tutorial on the process, Opening a remote site to copy to your local (hard) drive" in our  Support > Viewlets section.

If you are using an earlier version of FrontPage, you will first need to set up a local (empty or one-page) web on your hard drive, then after opening the remote site live, select File > Publish Web - then browse to the web you have created and publish.
